Advice On Premature Ejaculation

It is very important to understand the basics of ejaculation before knowing about premature ejaculation. For many men, this basic knowledge about the ejaculation is itself the solution for their problem.

What is ejaculation?

Ejaculation is the release of semen from the male sex organ (penis) following sexual climax. Ejaculation is a complex mechanism - when a man is sexually stimulated, many parts of the body including the brain and nerves and mind work together to contract the pelvic floor muscles that controls the ejaculation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelvic_floor). Understanding the pelvic floor muscle and its function is very important to better understand the process of ejaculation and especially the control of ejaculation.

What is ‘climax’? Is it same as ejaculation?

Climax is referred to as ‘orgasm’ - the intense and pleasurable feeling of release of builded tension at the peak of sexual excitement. In men, this release of tension is followed by ejaculation of semen. But it is important to understand that climax and ejaculation happens very close to each that one would not be able appreciate the difference. But technically, climax and ejaculation are different.

What types of ejaculatory problems are there?

As mentioned earlier, ejaculation is a complex process that requires co-ordinated functioning of different systems of the body, brain and mind. This means, there are many possibilities for the ejaculation not be perfect at all the time or for all the men. Premature ejaculation (the most common), inhibited or no ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation and painful ejaculation are the major ejaculatory problems.

What is in the ejaculate?

The semen is a whitish-grey fluid that is ejaculated from the penis (male external sex organ). It is colloquially called ‘cum’. It consists of secretions from the seminal vesicle (60-65%) and prostate (30-35%) and testicles and epididymis 5%. The secretions offer a medium and protection for the sperm – the male seed. Normal semen contains citric acid, free amino acids, fructose, enzymes, phosphorylcholine, prostaglandin, potassium, and zinc. The average volume of semen produced in a single ejaculation varies from 2 to 5 ml. Many men are concerned about the loss of semen by masturbation. To know more about this, please click here.

What ejaculation means to a man and to his partner?

It can mean different to different people. Ejaculation of semen is considered as the ‘end’ to a sexual encounter even when a man and woman are engaged in sex. Many men walk away once they have ejaculated thinking it is all ‘done’ without giving importance to their partner (woman). In our very ancient tribal life, sex used to be a very rushed experience fearing that enemies or animals can attack us while having sex. For the same reason, ejaculating as soon as possible was the goal of sex without emphasising on pleasure. In modern day, there are no enemies or animals to attack but still many men rush sex. Sometimes, due to lack of time or privacy or fear being noticed by others, men rush sexual intercourse and masturbation with the ultimate aim of ejaculating as soon as possible. This ‘rushed experience’ has certainly an ongoing impact on sexual experience of a man.
